Guidance
The Guidance Counselor
At Sacred Heart Academy the focus is on the individual student as she lives and grows as a member of the community. The structure of the school supports this basic goal. A student's overall academic progress is supervised by a fully certified Guidance Counselor. This counselor works full-time with the student as she moves through her years of high school. Her primary responsibility is to get to know each student so that she can guide, direct and challenge her to success in her academic career. As the counselor comes to know the student, she is able to support her as she deals with personal, family and social situations. In addition, the counselor works closely with the student so she will be both prepared and knowledgeable regarding her choice of college.
Class Deans
Deans, full-time teachers who assumes responsibility for the discipline of all students on one academic level, also work closely with each student. Though never an end in itself, good discipline functions as a means to more important ends – in this case the creation of a safe, supportive and affirming academic atmosphere. It is this responsibility of the dean to inculcate the spirit which will foster in the student a sense of self-discipline and of personal responsibility toward the others members of the community. Both the counselor and the dean work closely together to foster this atmosphere; faculty members endeavor to model it.
